hey, coat...hang on!

one short sweet month after our last post at r.o.t.o.t.r., I give you (drum roll)...a coat rack! I simply stained a piece of $3ish wood I got at the local depot and adorned her with some mix-matched hooks.

step one: cut plank
step two: stain
step three: screw hooks to plank (if screws are longer than depth of plank, I suggest you just attach once plank is attached to wall..it will aid in securing AND you wont find yourself with a plank of wood screwed to your living room floor)

step four: enjoy!

total cost: $15

easy apron

so today is my first day of ceramics class and the course requires an apron...sounds like it's time to test out my new sewing machine!!! gals, let me tell you, i love it! since this apron will soon be covered in red clay, i kept in simple, but wanted to share because it took me less than an hour and it will definitely do the trick. this one was crafted out of some scrap fabric i bought at a thrift store and a ribbon that was used to package a blanket i bought from target.

a lovely brunch of flowers

today we had a brunch date at a couple-friend's house and since i've had my eye on flowers as of late i wanted to put together a special little bouquet for the table. the stars: waxflowers, spray roses and purple/burgundy pompons (all picked up an hour before our arrival time at a major grocery store(it's sunday and it was the closest thing to home)). since i was dealing with a lot of not so pretty flowers it really got the creative juices flowing, my options were hidden among a sea of carnations and dyed daisies. im pleased with my choices...what do you think? i'm kind of in love with the waxflowers and really liked the way all three nuzzled into shorter jars. try it, you'll feel fuzzy inside...and you should get 3-4 little bouquets out of it, your house will thank you.

tools needed: some green floral wire, scissors
optional: ribbon, red wine (for you, not the flowers)
tips: assemble in hand starting with bigger flowers in the center, rotating colors, then start to add in smaller friends, in this case, the waxflower stems. once you have a bouquet in hand, wrap with wire or floral tape

nice nails

so today was a painting saturday--the walls are lookin' good, but alas are still bare--they stare at me and scream "im naked and you've lived here for 9 months"...enter project 'nice nails.' I found these beauties in the oh-so-obvious NAIL aisle at home depot--they're huge! I kind of fell in love and got inspired...i think they were 19 cents each, superb! one aisle over in wood, my mind was blown by some cheap planks. i give you (drum roll) the project of the week! i bought three pieces of wood with the hopes of going back for some more--i loved the cedar planks, but because they're a tad more pricey, i must first prove myself to me and do something with the aforementioned planks. right now the plan is to screw the large plank into the wall and go from there. i'd also like to make shelves, using the nails as the supports. can she do it? will she do it? i vow to do it. i just have to get my mitts on an electric saw...to be continued
